THE ROLE

LEAD Charter School seeks an exceptional Mathematics Program Aide to join our mission-driven community. Our goal is to transform equity through opportunities for young people in Newark. Reporting to the Head of School, teachers at LEAD embody commitment, energy, and passion, facing challenges with the support, feedback, and collaboration of teammates and school leaders.

 

WHO WE ARE

The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 to master essential skills for success in careers, postsecondary education, and community leadership within a global society. We implement the Newark Opportunity Youth Network (NOYN) school model, supporting the unique academic and non-academic needs of students who have disengaged from traditional schooling. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required, graduate students or degree welcomed
  • New Jersey Substitute Certification Required
  • Urban classroom experience or a demonstrated commitment to closing the achievement gap
  • Strong commitment to youth and ability to work effectively with parents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including use of office productivity software.
  • Robust analytical skills, with an ability to use data to drive student achievement.
  • Capacity to personalize instruction through differentiation, including use of blended learning.
  • Required criminal history background check, proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status & NJ residency.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Review student academic progress data and support struggling student as determined by the supplemental program within LEAD
  2. Support instruction across all Math content areas, including special education.
  3. Provide homework assistance and academic enrichment using curriculum and materials provided by LEAD teachers and staff.
  4. Collaborate with each student’s Advisory to set appropriate and frequent academic and social goals.
  5. Lead afternoon student halls as necessary to support students inside class and during Office Hours.
  6. Lead student advisory groups if asked to do so by School Leaders.
  7. Engage fully in a coaching relationship including feedback meetings with school leaders.
  8. Work collaboratively and participate actively at faculty meetings and in professional learning teams.
  9. Develop and maintain school culture artifacts like bulletins, data walls, and announcement boards.
  10. Teach and enforce the program-wide, clearly defined systems, structures, and rules (including before and afternoon and during transition times).
  11. Tutor designated groups of students for predetermined periods of time (supplementing programming).
  12. Develop strong collegial bonds with core content teachers and staff to facilitate seamless support and programming to students.
  13. Provide assistance to core content teachers in the following areas: classroom set-up, material creation, entering grades, facilitating lessons, planning and practicing assessments.
  14. Assist with the Lunch Program as needed.
  15. Attend and supportall school-wide events.
  16. Be available via phone and/or email throughout the evening and weekend to communicate with families, teammates and school leaders.
  17. Complete other duties upon request by the school leaders.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Twelve-month employee.
  • Salary to be recommended by the Head of School and approved by the board.

 

EVALUATION

  • Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.
